Christmas Memories

It seems nearly everyone has a “favorite” part of Christmas. For some it’s scouring the Christmas tree lot for the perfect fir or pine. For others the smell of baking cookies wafting thru the air heralds, “Christmas Is Here!” For many people, though, it’s not the sites or smells, but the music of the holiday season that evokes the most cherished memories of holidays past.

For me, music has always provided a special joy.  I have fond memories of being a young girl “dancing” to my dad’s guitar as he and my mom would sing their old favorites. I’m still amazed by my dad’s ability to master “anything with strings” with such ease that it seemed he must have been born with the instrument in his hands.  I remember singing on long car trips to pass the time, and I’ll always remember that day my dad brought home a “lovingly played”, previously owned alto saxophone for his ten year old daughter who desparately wanted to join the school band.

Our Christmas season started when Mom pulled out the Christmas records. Those Christmas records….those records that crackled and popped all our favorites. The crackles and the pops, the voices, the instruments, the arrangements meant it was Christmas.  Those old records…those old memories…those Christmases….

With this blog, we hope to share some information about those wonderful old vinyl discs which hold treasured memories for so many people.  We hope you enjoy our nostalgic walk down memory lane.
