To tell the story of the birth of this blog, we have to give you a little background information. In 2004, we started our business, DLF Music Transfer, LLC, specializing in transferring analog media (records, tapes, etc.) to digital formats. Our first Christmas in business, we noticed we received for transfer several records distributed in the 1960s by Goodyear and others by Firestone. The next Christmas, we noticed we were receiving those records from even more customers for transfer.
Like you, we are very busy during the Christmas season, both personally and professionally. In an attempt to lighten our workload, we decided to make master transfers of those Goodyear and Firestone records…..high quality masters we could burn on demand without having to start from scratch each time the records came in for transfer. Then we thought….”what the heck? We have these masters, let’s throw a website up and see if we can sell these cd transfers and save our customers the trouble of mailing in their records.” To quote David’s older brother, “we didn’t know what we’d be doing!” From that little website where we originally listed 10 Goodyear “Great Songs of Christmas” and 7 “Firestone Your Favorite Christmas” releases, we have grown to our current e-commerce site offering almost 2500 different Christmas records on cd, and we sell and ship them all over the world.
Have you ever noticed how much information you can find on the back of an album jacket? Not every jacket, of course, but many record jackets have some really good and interesting information. You can imagine how much of that information we ran across in accumulating about 2500 releases. At the same time, we found that people were calling us with questions about Christmas records such as “Why did tire companies sell records?”, etc. We found that people are interested in the origins of their favorite Christmas music and traditions, and we knew we had lots of information from album jackets that we could share. The question was how to share it. Thus, our blog was born.
So, what will you find in this blog? You will find articles we’ve written about certain Christmas albums. You’ll find articles we found interesting written by others that we’ve shared. You’ll find articles about the origins of some of your favorite Christmas songs. You’ll find interesting stories about how some of our favorite Christmas songs came to be. You’ll find related content, too, like Christmas traditions in other countries (including a recipe or two for favorite traditional foods.) All in all, you’ll find 3 years of articles we published weekly all centered on Christmas music and traditions. We no longer publish weekly, but when we find an interesting tidbit we wish to share, we do it here.
Welcome to our Christmas music world. We hope you enjoy your stay.
